Hiromi – Sepia Effect

Incredibly beautiful closing piece from Hiromi’s solo album ”Spectrum”. I’m playing it a few BPM under her full tempo here and still struggled somewhat. The ostinato pattern in the A section makes it incredibly challenging to voice the melody effectively and distinctly from the hand shared accompaniment. The solos are thankfully interspersed with frequent short breaks that make it somewhat less relentless, but there is none-the-less a large amount of material to master here, and some awkward and frustrating patterns to master. This piece, in my opinion, goes beyond the requirement expected of students at ARSM level.
