Welcome to my website. I am a Glasgow based pianist and musician primarily focusing on tuition. I arrange music, either for my students or because I like it, you can find these collected in the menu above. I also write educational music for adult students with a goal of creating sounds that are more modernistic and interesting to listen to. I believe one of the biggest hurdles to adult piano learning is being taught with the same music as children are taught with, you need to be engaged and challenged with sounds and harmony suited to the ear of the mature music enjoyed.

Tuition

I teach piano from my dedicated personal studio in the Nithsdale area, 10 minutes walk from Cessnock subway station.

I am primarily a classical teacher, which means I teach on a basis of reading notated music, but I consider my style a hybrid, as I use chord symbols and theory to make the process easier to digest. This leaves students able to play any genre they desire, read lead sheets, and understand pop chord symbols. In my opinion this is the only way to demystify the huge challenge that sight-reading presents, only when you understand why the music sounds the way it does, can you understand how to read it at the tempo the music moves at.

I put younger students through the ABRSM exam grading syllabus, while still teaching them my hybrid theoretically based style, and I teach adult learners with my own personalised syllabus designed to make learning engaging. Weddings

I offer a bespoke service for wedding ceremonies, I will personally arrange suitable solo piano versions of any songs of your choice, to ensure your ceremony is precisely as you have imagined it.

I also offer an enormous repertoire of music to be played in the background before and after the ceremony, before your band or DJ starts the party later on in the evening.

I can bring my own piano and all equipment, or play a suitable instrument if the venue has one.

Funerals

I offer a selection of repertoire to provide a musical service for funerals, to provide an atmosphere of emotion and decorum.

I can bring my own piano with me, or play a piano if the venue has one. Please note I cannot play organs.

Educational Music

I write original music specifically for adult learners. As I started teaching, I found that most music designed for the first few years of learning is engineered for a child’s ear. This means the tonality is often lacking the complexity and emotion that adults enjoy in music, after a lifetime of defining personal taste. This is all graded using a variation on the ABRSM grading system.

Arrangements

I also arrange other music in many styles:

Solo piano versions of classical ensemble music
Advanced versions of modern bands and songs, designed to display the ability of the piano to imagine all the instruments of an ensemble simultaneously
Easy on the hand arrangements of jazz ballads, old pop music etc.
Easy versions of lesser known classical themes and melodies I have collated over the years

Original Compositions

I am also a composer. While I would hope I’m attempting to carve my own style out, it could be described as heavily influenced by my favourite music, early 20th century impressionism.
