Overview
I am a Glasgow based classical piano tutor, with 30 years of pianistic experience, and 7 years teaching. With a DipABRSM qualification since 2008, and a certificate of Higher Education from the RCS (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, formerly the RSAMD), I am qualified to take students from complete beginner all the way past Grade 8 to Diploma level. I operate using the ABRSM exam syllabus.
I am also perfectly happy to work with students who have no interest in moving forward on the path of standardized qualifications or grades, and are simply looking to improve their understanding of the piano as a performance instrument. Students are more than welcome to either choose all their own music, or draw upon my extensive repertoire of music for suggestions.
I am particularly experienced at guiding adult beginners through the difficult early stages of learning to read music, by using a hybrid classical/jazz technique in which we learn chord and chord notation in tandem with the traditional notes on the stave.
I can provide in-depth insights into advanced practice technique, memorisation skills, technical exercises and etudes, dealing with performance pressure, and possess a broad knowledge of all eras of music from the early baroque, through romanticism and the 20th century, right through to jazz, modern minimalism, contemporary cinematic compositions and popular works.
Pricing
For a 30 minute lesson, I charge £75 monthly, or £40 fortnightly, which is around 90% of the recommended Musicians Union rate. My prices are updated every 2 years based on the Musicians Union rate. Full details are linked below:
I also offer fortnightly lessons for adults, as its often difficult to find a time you can be available every single week. As long as you practice reliably, you will progress as well as with a weekly lesson.
Location
I work from my dedicated tuition studio in the Nithsdale area, at 38 Gower Street, on a Kemble upright piano. I also offer professional recording ability for students who want to go the online/digital route in ABRSM exams. All parents are more than welcome to stay and observe their child’s lesson, but for students under 11, parents are required to stay and observe the lesson.
The studio is reachable within a 10 minute walk from Cessnock subway station, 5 minutes from Dumbreck Train station, and there is available free parking right outside.
Please just give me a call or text on 07932068226, or an email at michaelpeacockpiano@gmail.com if you have any enquiries.
